Nejtypičtějším příkladem panoptik jsou tzv. freak shows rozšířené v až století v Anglii a Spojených státech.Z hlediska lidských anomálií byly v panoptikách.

Magyarországon először a Budai Várnegyedben nyílt panoptikum a nyolcvanas évek végén, ezt azonban ban be kellett zárni, mert a helyiség páratartalma nem volt megfelelő a figuráknak.
